Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine. It blocks the effects of the naturally occurring chemical histamine in the body. It is used to treat sneezing; runny nose; itching, watery eyes; hives; rashes; itching; and other symptoms of allergies and the common cold.
Epinephrine is a hormone that is secreted by the adrenal glands. Epinephrine is a chemical that narrows blood vessels and opens airways in the lungs. These effects can reverse severe low blood pressure, wheezing, severe skin itching, hives, and other symptoms of an allergic reaction. Epinephrine injection is used to treat severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis).
